A visit to India will (for most people) start with a flight to the Indira Gandhi airport in Delhi. This is the busiest airport in India with around 34 million passengers traveling to and from it every year. The airport is well connected by public transport and it is possible to rent a car and a driver. Depending on the season that you are traveling in Delhi can be very hot (40C) or cold and wet with monsoon rains. Delhi has a lot to offer to both the new and seasoned tourist and is a great starting point for a trip through India. From budget hotels to luxury accommodation, Delhi has it. Hyderabad is a place in India that features on most backpackers’ lists. With its rich history and pleasant climate, Hyderabad combines great traditional food and architecture with high tech surroundings and office blocks. The Indian festivals can be a great focal point during a trip to India. They leave a true impression of tradition and religion that is very much alive in India today. The Pushkar camel fair in Rajasthan, between October and November) lasts for five days and during the fair devotees gather to take a dip in the sacred lake. During the fair 25,000 adorned camels are sold, making this the biggest camel fair in the world.

The Holi festival should be experienced by anyone interested in Indian culture. In Mathura, the birth place of Lord Krishna, the festival is celebrated by drinking bhang and eating sweets whilst throwing pigments (gulal) at people.

You can travel around India by train, bus or car. Renting your own car and driver can be the best way to travel around if you want to see places that are off the grid. Taxis are affordable and rickshaws offer a great way to move from one place to another (nearby) place. India is a place waiting to be discovered, whether you want to travel in style or follow the backpacker trail.
